3 WISE MEN gets new cover

It is quite exciting to see 3 WISE MEN taking final shape, ready for publication (in both eBook and softcover formats).

A big thanks to Lamar from Sheergenius for his great work on the new cover. I hope it captures the excitement and tension that our 3 wise men encounter.

Here is a brief look.

3 WISE MEN set off for publication

Yes, our 3 Wise Men are heading off – following their star towards publication! Final touches are being made to the cover design and layout, as well as some minor text revisions, and we will let you know when it is available on Kindle (in eBook format) and on Amazon (in softcover). Thanks again for your interest and feedback!

Few Wise Men (or woman) at Kindle?

There are few wise men (or women) working at Kindle. How do we know? Because they passed on 3 WISE MEN for publication under the Kindle Scout program. Another reason could well be that this program has now finished and my book (along with many others) was simply too late for acceptance. I will update readers when I hear more. Meanwhile, sit back and enjoy more extracts from the novel and, hopefully, news soon of a print run. Of course, all authors will probably say this about their own work, but given the most positive feedback from those who have read the draft manuscript, I don’t think so. The 3 WISE MEN are still following a publishing star!

Which actor would be best in the lead role?

Matt Damon! With glasses on, he has an absent-minded scientist look that fits Jak Colins perfectly. George Clooney might put his hand up too but he is really too nice, although he would look the part sipping coffees in Jak’s favorite bar in Milan.

Tom Hanks is another possibility and I love his ability to be in-character. Angelina Jolie would make the perfect “Sasha.”

A hidden message for readers of 3 WISE MEN?

This is an excellent question! One hidden message is that accidents happen to everyone, although more happen to Jak than most of us would normally experience in a short time. However, it is what you make of these ‘accidents’ that really matters. Like us, Jak copes with some better than others. I would also hope that readers see the beauty in seemingly disconnected events – events that transpire together in very special, and significant, ways.

3 WISE MEN could be the “butterfly effect” of thrillers!

Where do you go to my lovely?

Juan-les-Pins figures a few times as a key location in 3 WISE MEN. Later in the book, Romano leaves this sleepy seaside town for a final showdown with the elusive Jak Colins. En route he sees a rather attractive woman sauntering up from the beach and (showing his age) is reminded of the famous Peter Sarstedt’s song – ‘Where do you go to my lovely’ from the 1960’s …

[novel extract: Romano sat waiting on the motorbike, its engine idling smoothly. Stefan put his helmet on and they turned right out of the apartment building. Romano blinked a few times to adjust to the brighter daylight and followed the splotches of shadow cast by tall palms as they made their way up Avenue Maréchal Joffre toward the Juan-les-Pins train station. They quickly ducked left at the corner and sped down the one-way Avenue l’Estérel, dodging around slow cars on the busy, narrow road.

Stefan was hanging on grimly, hoping that his boss might slow down a little.

“This is the best way to get around on the Riviera,” Romano shouted.

He was suddenly distracted. A curvy, bikini-clad blond was sauntering slowly up the footpath from the beach, her hips and full breasts swaying gracefully in time with her white beach bag. When they got closer, Romano braked, throttled back and pulled over to have a longer look. Both he and Stefan looked like little boys gawking inside a candy store.

As the young woman walked past, Romano hoped to attract her attention. He unashamedly launched into song, singing Peter Sarstedt’s 1960s ‘Where do you go to my lovely’ at the top of his voice.

‘Where do you go to my lovely
When you’re alone in your bed,
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head…
When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pins;
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan,
on your back and on your legs’

However, this bombshell was certainly not topless, although Romano wished she had been. She noticed Stefan shaking his head in disbelief at the poor singing, but simply strolled past them both with an air of importance, looking stunning in her polka dot bikini – black polka dot briefs and a rather loose-fitting, pink polka dot top. It was easy for Romano to image her ambling merrily up the road – in just the briefs, but still wearing her yellow over-sized sunglasses and floppy straw hat. It was almost too much to take in. He whistled and turned around.

“Very nice!” he enthused to Stefan, who grinned back and shouted,

“She looks hot!”

“Yes, and summer’s over now!” Romano laughed, “Now hang on!” he yelled as they pulled out into the traffic, then skirted around the boulevard intersection. Romano accelerated fast and made their way from the coast to Rue Pauline and then onto the D6017 route to Grasse.

At this pace they should be there in less than thirty minutes – just enough time for Romano to make his next, and final, move. ]

Jak Arrives in Arrivals

Arrival halls can be noisy and confusing places. Jak is confused more than most after his rather unfortunate incident en route.

[novel extract: “The only information I heard was to tell us that we had arrived at Terminal 1 and to collect any luggage from Carousel 1. There was also something mentioned about taking a shuttle bus outside the terminal, but I was expecting someone to meet me.
“It was quite funny though because I forgot that I had no booked luggage. So I stood with other passengers who had gathered around the Carousel waiting for their bags. I had a splitting headache and can remember staring for at the ugly orange and white pillars before realizing that I only had carry-on bags.

“Feeling rather stupid, I turned and walked toward the exit, still unsure where I was. In front of me I saw a flight attendant being pushed along in a wheelchair. Then I looked at the row of signage boards being held up. By this time my head hurt even more and I realized that I might have concussion.”

“So,” Sasha asked, “was your friend there to meet you?” ]

In some bizarre way, after arriving, this is where Jak meets his jealous rivals!
